Linkin Park Singer Says Outdoor Festivals Have "Killed the Live Experience"

If you see  Linkin Park  play an outdoor festival, know that at least one member is doing so "begrudgingly." That, from the mouth of Linkin Park singer  Chester Bennington , who tells  NME in an interview  that he thinks that "Rock and roll is not meant to be played with the sun shining on your face. It can be done, but it's done begrudgingly."

Though he made the comment with a twinkle in his eye, suggesting he's joking, Bennington goes on to make the point that "outdoor festivals kind of killed the live experience a little bit. The whole idea of seeing a rock band is to be in a dark place, the lights, the stage, to be part of the show. When you're sitting on the grass and the sun is shining...it doesn't f**king matter."

What does the singer prefer? "Inside," Bennington says. "Dark, controlled environment, lights, loud music, [is] always better."

Chester will get half his wish later this summer: the dates that Linkin Park have with  30 Seconds to Mars  on their Carnivores tour are outdoors, but at night.
