WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- The summer's biggest cookout is back at the Wausau Downtown Airport as the Balloon Rally and BBQ Ribfest returns this weekend.
Wausau Events marketing director Kasey Taube says the event has something for everyone. "We have hit air balloons, this year we have fireworks both Friday and Saturday, we have kids rides, petting zoo and camel rides, pig racing, and there's live music every night."
The balloons got their start in Wausau last night, and Taube says there's plenty to see once the airport gets running the rest of this weekend. "Well the launch is at 6:30, the glow is around dark. And Saturday they also do a 6 am, if weather permits, they do a balloon launch. And at dusk on Friday and Saturday there are fireworks."
All of your favorite ribbers are back again this year as well. "Aussom Aussie is coming back, as far as rib vendors, there is My Happy Place, Sergeant Oinks BBQ, Chicago BBQ and Texas Thunder." Each of the ribbers is judged by both a judging panel as well as a popular vote through the weekend. Aussom Aussie was last year's champion.
The event is free to get in. You can learn more at www.wausauevents.org.
