PHILLIPS, Wis (WSAU) Phillips police chief is resigning amid allegations of wrongdoing by the city's mayor. David Sonntag had been on paid administrative leave since March. As part of an agreement for his resignation and retirement, he'll admit no wrongdoing.
Sonntag was accused of submitting for a mileage reimbursement for a meeting in Madison that he didn't attend. He was also accused of trying to pull a driver over in his personal vehicle, which wasn't authorized for police work. A Price County deputy intervened and let the other driver go. And a complaint said Sonntag never completed a drug test on evidence that was seized during an arrest.
Sonntag had been police chief for nine years.
