Packers shareholders meeting today

GREEN BAY, Wis (WSAU-Wheeler News) - Once again this year, the Green Bay Packers will not have to pack their bags for a trip to London for an NFL game at Wembley Stadium.

Thursday, team president Mark Murphy told fans at the Packers' stockholders meeting that he anticipates the green and gold playing in London at some point. But he said the team would never voluntarily give up a home game for it.

Murphy said the annual London games have been important to the NFL in expanding its exposure.

Team officials also presented a financial report Thursday, and Murphy said it was good for the small-market Packers to rank 9th in the league in total revenues last season.

Packers officials report the team made a profit of $25.6 million during the 2014 fiscal year. However, that was down more than half from the previous year. The team says that’s due to the timing of player contracts and a devaluation of the new south end zone stands.

Also, the league has talked about moving the draft around the country, so it's not in New York every year -- and Green Bay's mayor has said he would like his city to host it.

Murphy said the city made the effort, but for now at least, the league is looking at Chicago or Los Angeles.

Coach Mike McCarthy was not at Thursday's meeting. He plans to hold a pre-Training Camp news conference Friday, before the camp workouts begin on Saturday.
