UPDATE: Green Bay man dead after shooting incident in Marinette County

MARINETTE COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - Authorities say the man who allegedly shot at an SUV and a Marinette County sheriff's vehicle on Highway 141 before turning the gun on himself Thursday had been dealing with depression.

Marinette County sheriff's also say he had become "quite agitated," recently.

Authorities also identified the gunman as 43-year-old Robb P. DeGroot of Green Bay. Initially, it was reported that the man was 35-years-old.

On Thursday around 3 p.m., the sheriffs department got a call that shots were being fired at a couple from Illinois driving their SUV to Upper Michigan on northbound Highway 141 near Wausaukee. The couple said the driver went off the road, then came up behind them and fired again.

Investigators say the second bullet from the 9mm handgun went inside the SUV. The Illinois couple did not know DeGroot.

Deputies say they caught up with DeGroot around Pembine when he turned onto U.S. Highway 8. He fired a shot at them, and eventually turned down Shrine Road in Goodman.

The deputies called for backup on the dirt road. Authorities tried to contact DeGroot, but he didn't respond. They found him in some wood, face down on the ground, with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators say an autopsy Friday confirmed DeGroot died from a gunshot wound to the head. They're awaiting toxicology results to see if he had been using drugs or drinking.
