Soldier from Kenosha dies from illness received during Afghanistan tour

KENOSHA, WI (WTAQ) - A soldier from Kenosha has died of an illness he contracted while serving with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.

20-year-old Donnell Hamilton Jr. died Thursday at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. He was serving in Ghazni Province when the Department of Defense says he came down with the illness.

Hamilton had been assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Bridgade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas.

He had served in Afghanistan from July 2013 to last March.
