UPDATE: Wisconsin Rapids Police Lieutenant Joel Flewellen confirms that the woman who died crossing the track Sunday was 80-year-old Joyce Huber of Wisconsin Rapids. Flewellen says they have no information that would indicate foul play or suicide, but the death remains under investigation. He says witnesses say she was trying to cross, but did not have time before the train reached the crossing.
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis. (WSAU) -- An elderly woman is dead after walking into the path of a train in Wisconsin Rapids Sunday.
Wisconsin Rapids police say the woman attempted to cross the railroad tracks while walking westbound on West Grand Avenue at Riverview Expressway, and walked into the path of a southbound train at 3:14 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Wisconsin Rapids Police Lieutenant Joel Flewellen say the railroad crossing safety arms and lights were working, and the train’s horn was also functional. The name of the woman has not been released yet.
