WESTON, Wis. (WSAU) -- The future of bus service in Wausau’s south metro area is still uncertain after a committee meeting in Weston Monday night
Weston's Community Life & Public Safety Committee made no specific recommendations on new routes to the full village board after hearing a number of proposals on continuing bus service after this year. They did recommend to rescind the ordinance that required the service which was put in place on a direct vote in 2012.
A proposed route would shorten the total milage the bus takes right now while preserving paratransit services to both Saint Clare's Hospital and the Birchwood Highlands apartments.
Committee members say they want to see if any financial savings can be found before recommending a new route, and the village's finance committee is set to take a look later this week.
Some committee members have already said they want significant savings, while others don’t support continuing the route.
