MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - Almost five dozen fraternities and sororities at UW-Madison will not have to delay their fall recruiting for new student members.
A campus committee says a delay is not warranted -- and it would put Greek organizations behind, while other student groups continue their own recruiting.
The UW's Student Life Office received complaints about the Greek recruiting period overlapping with Jewish holidays.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, first-year female students said they could not make long term commitments to sororities, while they were observing religious celebrations.
The committee which studied the issue had members from Greek organizations, university housing, and other groups. They considered a proposal to delay Greek recruiting until October -- or the spring semester in January.
