MADISON, Wis. (WSAU) -- Now that it's legal to use crossbows during the deer season, it's time to start signing up for your license.
DNR wildlife regulations specialist Scott says changes to legislation opened up who can use crossbows. "A disabled hunters permit or being 65-or-older is no longer necessary. It's now simply anyone who can get a licenses can get a crossbow only license."
Loomans says your crossbow license will be pretty much the same as a regular archery license. "That gives them a buck tag and a farmland zone antlerless tag that they can use pretty much during the entire fall hunting season. We have an archery only season and a crossbow only season, but the dates are the same."
You can only get the one set of tags for both archery and crossbow during the archery season. Hunters will need to follow all the regular rules and regulations set out for archery hunters.
You can find more regulations and guidelines online from the DNR's website.
