WAUKESHA, WI (WTAQ) - The attorney for one of the 12-year-old Waukesha girls accused of trying to kill a friend as part of a fictional character's ritual will ask a judge to place her in a mental institution.
Anthony Cotton tells the AP that his client shows signs of mental illness -- and a judge turned down his request Monday to keep her in a mental ward instead of a juvenile detention center.
Cotton was planning to meet with the youngster again Tuesday afternoon, and then renew his request for mental treatment at another court hearing next week.
The girl and another 12-year-old are charged as adults with attempted homicide, after they allegedly stabbed another 12-year-old girl 19 times last Friday at a sleepover for one of the defendant's birthdays.
The girls told police they were trying to curry favor with Slender Man, a character on the Web site Creepypasta, which features horror stories.
The Web site defended its honor today on its blog. An administrator posted that all stories on the site are fiction, and they do not endorse or advocate actual killing.
