WESTON, Wis (WSAU) A man accused of pretending to be a stock broader entered a 'not guilty' plea in Marathon County court yesterday. Prosecutors say 34-year-old Andy Vang urged friends and family members to buy $10,000 blocks of Apple and Google stock. In some cases he took their money and never purchased their shares.
Prosecutors say Vang was caught when he printed fake business cards using the name of a real brokerage-house in Madison. That company notified police when some of Vang's clients called them and asked about their investment accounts.
A criminal complaint says the scam dates back at least six years. Yang may have taken up to $170,000 from his victims.
A judge ruled yesterday there is enough evidence for the case to head to trial. His next court date has not been scheduled.
