KRONENWETTER, Wis. (WSAU) -- The Kronenwetter police officer under investigation for prostitution has resigned from the department. Police Chief Daniel Joling issued a statement Wednesday saying that 41-year-old Jason Rasmussen resigned his position with the department effective June 7th. Joling says that because of the resignation, the internal affairs investigation is closed and the department will take no further action.
Rasmussen still faces charges for soliciting a prostitute and encouraging probation violations. He was caught in a sting operation by Marathon County Sheriff’s Department deputies in April after 19-year-old Destinee Doonan was questioned about prostitution in an unrelated case, and revealed she had an ongoing prostitution relationship with Rasmussen.
Special Prosecutor and Langlade County District Attorney Ralph Uttke was assigned to prosecute both former officer Rasmussen and Doonan.
Rasmussen joined the Kronenwetter Police Department in 2006. New court dates for his case have not yet been scheduled.
