STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) -- A major renovation at a Stevens Point golf and entertainment venue is making progress. That’s according to SentryWorld General Manager Michael James. He says the work is progressing nicely, but they cannot yet determine any exact dates to reopen the complex.  “The date (for opening) is still up to determine on the golf course, but as far as the facility and the sports complex, there’s major construction there. We’ve completely gutted the whole facility. Again, the weather posed a bit of a challenge for us, but a lot of people are working on that project right now, and every time I go in there, I get more and more excited about the project.”

James says SentryWorld’s redesign is intended to both modernize the facility and make it more useful and flexible.  “We want to make this facility very versatile, and it’s to accommodate a variety of size groups that are in the community. We believe that there’s a need for this type of facility, and so the vision was to try to satisfy that need, and I believe we have.”

Once the golf course reopens, players will be able to use the new fleet of golf cars. James says there are a couple of very special cars in the fleet.  “They’re called SoloRider Carts, and these are carts that would be used for individuals who have disabilities. This cart can actually go in different places and the seat rotates and swivels so that somebody, if they had an injury of the leg or something, they could actually swivel the seat, stay strapped in, hit the golf shot, and continue on.”

The other new golf cars features Visage™ global positioning technology, which gives users both useful information and communication tools.  “As you’re driving up to the first hole, Robert Trent Jones, Junior, our architect, will greet you with a message on each hole, talking about the hole and how to play it, maybe a little bit of the history behind it. Then as you play the hole, it will have the yardage to the flag or yardage to the bunkers. It will give you a lot of information.”

The onboard system is also a communications link that allows you to call the beverage cart, or to place your food order as you make the turn towards the clubhouse.

James says when SentryWorld reopens, they will be able to serve a variety of large and small groups plus host business expos, weddings, trade shows, as well as the tennis and dining the old center was known for.

SentryWorld is already taking applications for up to 75 new team members at their website.
