WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- You can learn more about the upcoming construction on the Highway 51-U-K interchange in Wausau tonight at a meeting with the Department of Transportation.
Project manager Dan Erva says there'll be a number of informative items on the agenda. "Discuss the construction activities for the year, the prime contractor will go over their schedule of operations, we'll give you detour information." Crews are planning to get started once the weather is good enough for construction work, and can get access to the site.
Erva says this summer they're hoping to finish the rest of the project off. "Last year we reconstructed County Highway U and the U bridge. This year we'll be focusing our construction efforts on County Highway K and US 51." But a big change this year will be a long term closure of Highway K north of the interchange. "There will still be some slip ramps to get around construction, but County Highway K will be closed, and the detour route will use County Highway U and Overlook Drive."
Tonight's meeting is at Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, starting at 5:30pm.
