Chandler, Kleefisch still hearing tax reform suggestions

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WSAU) -- State officials heard a new concept for tax reform Friday.

Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and Secretary of Revenue Rick Chandler have travelled around Wisconsin hosting a series of Tax Reform Roundtable discussions.

At their 13th tour stop in Rhinelander, someone suggested creating a regional tax structure. The citizen that suggested it says having people pay taxes based on where they live would allow the state to give a tax break to less economically developed areas, such as northern Wisconsin.

Kleefisch says they’ve heard many different ideas in their travels, but this is the first time they’ve heard this suggestion. She says they will research it to see if it is possibly a solution, and if any other states have tried it.

Chandler and Kleefisch say there are some common themes everywhere they go. People tell them taxes are too high and too complicated.
