UNDATED (WXPR) -- A research summit next week looks at community development in the Northwoods. It takes place at UW Stevens Point's Treehaven.

Community Sustainability is the theme of the 7th Northwoods Research Summit. Treehaven Director Corky McReynolds says presentation and discussion topics are broad to look at all the components of a thriving community.  "The theme of this year is how do we bring sort of aspects of our community together.  So how do we connect our healthy communities with the environment, and how do we connect the environment with jobs, how do we connect all of these things together, so that we're not just looking at one aspect of a community, but all of the important aspects of a community."

The conference is organized by Treehaven, Nicolet College and Grow North Regional Economic Development Corporation. Health, education and environment are all part of the conversation, as is the economy.

McReynolds says the conference is trying to go beyond economics to look at why people really want to live in the Northwoods.  "So jobs is absolutely critical and important, but there's all these other aspects, and this is the purpose of the summit this year is to help thread all of those ideas together."

McRenyolds says the sessions focus on research and best practices that make a difference in a particular field.

The conference is Thursday March 20th. Those interested can register online or by calling Treehaven.
