WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) -- More than 1,200 runners participated in the 5th annual Bull Falls Bock Fest 5k Saturday.

The annual race is a fundraiser for the Never Forgotten Honor Flight, and Bull Falls Brewery brewmaster Don Zamzow says the race keeps getting bigger since the first year in 2009. "There was 300 runners that year, and then it was 500 and then it was 700, and last year it was 983. And don't know what it's going to top out this year but it's the top side of 1200."

All proceeds from the race go towards the Never Forgotten Honor Flight which gives area veterans a chance to visit memorials built in their honor in Washington D.C including World War II and Korean War veterans. It’s a cause that Zamzow says many are proud to support. The races have raised $30,000 in five years, which has been been enough to help send more than 60 veterans to Washington. "Jim Campbell tells me possibly with this race, we may have through all the events filled a plane ourselves."

A new Bock Buster run-only course was added this year which featured over 3 miles of straight forward running on Wausau’s McIntosh Street. Runner Bo Sollars came out from Kansas City Missouri to run in the Bock Buster to get a challenge. "I started running last year, and I figured, take it up another level and instead of running flat ground, I'd go up a hill." About 150 runners took part in that part of the race.

Zamzow says they're happy to see so many people out for the event each year. "It's a great thing, and we appreciate them supporting Bull Falls Brewery but most of all supporting the Never Forgotten Honor Flight."
