MARSHFIELD, Wis. (WSAU) -- A group from Marshfield called “Compassion in Action” is planning a trip to storm ravaged areas of the South.
Director Cathie Shilts says their exact destination will be determined by need, but that they will likely be going to Arkansas, the site of recent tornadoes. The group’s been there to help in the aftermath of other disasters including Hurricane Katrina and the tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri and Moore, Oklahoma.
Shilts says that volunteers make it all happen, and that “we do our job, we burn a whole lot of ‘midnight oil’, and go serve hurting people.”
On Saturday they’ll be signing up volunteers, collecting supplies, and taking monetary donations. Shilts says that, “100% of that money gets funneled to survivors of the storm.” That collection takes place from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm this Saturday in the parking lot of the Marshfield Shopko, or you can go to the group’s website.
