MADISON, Wis (WSAU)  - The Wisconsin State Supreme Court upheld Act 10, the state law that limits the collective bargaining rights of state employees. The law from three years ago sparked protests at the state capital and led to the recall attempt against Governor Scott Walker. The court's ruling in favor of Act 10 was 5-2. Governor speaks to Conservation Congress convention

ROTHSCHILD, Wis. (WSAU) -- Wisconsin’s Conservation Congress convention was held in Rothschild Friday. The congress was discussing resolutions from the recent county meetings and possible fish and wildlife rule changes.

Governor Scott Walker addressed the group.  Afterwards, he commented on how the state is working hard to offset spearfishing with more stocking through the Walleye initiative.  "That's why we've been aggressive in trying to bring together not only DNR fish hatcheries, but private fish hatcheries, even tribal and municipal fish hatcheries and aquaponics programs to get more fingerlings, which leads to more fish."

Governor Walker says the state has a very high goal for stocking walleye.  “We went from 40,000 fingerlings to 440,000 as of last November. Our goal over the next several years is to get up to three-quarters of a million, and we think that will bring great success for people who want to have success fishing.”

Walker says the work of the DNR and the Conservation Congress is invaluable to help with next year's wolf hunt.  “Make sure we’re monitoring the population accurately. That’s a concern whether it’s with deer, bear, wolves, or others out there. It’s something we obviously hear not only from those sportsmen and women, but we hear from farmers, we hear from homeowners and others out there. For us, we want to make sure we have an accurate count and a successful harvest.”

The Wisconsin Conservation Congress is the only statutory body in the state where citizens elect delegates to advise the Natural Resources Board and the Department of Natural Resources on management of natural resources.
