MILWAUKEE, WI (LEARFIELD-WSAU) Carlos Gomez missed last night's Brewer game with lower back spasms suffered on Tuesday night. So while he was sitting out, the center-fielder agreed to end his appeal of a three-game suspension for the Easter Sunday brawl at Pittsburgh.
That will make him eligible to return free-and-clear on Saturday against the Cubs in Chicago. Gomez had his appeal hearing last Friday, and he was hoping to have to reduced to one-or-two games. We'll never know if that would have happened, since Major League Baseball delayed its ruling.
Gomez said he'd probably have to miss a game-or-two anyway with the muscle problem in his back. Still, it means he'll be docked for three games of pay, instead of the reduction he was initially hoping to get.
