Shooting death in Plover home

PLOVER, Wis. (WSAU) -- One person is dead after a shooting at a Plover residence early Saturday. Plover Police Chief Dwayne Wierzba says officers were called at 1:02 a.m. to 2530 Easlan Drive for a disturbance call of a possible home intruder. When they arrived, officers found one subject deceased.

The resident is Portage County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Anthony Gischia, who was not seriously injured.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice, the State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit, and the Wisconsin Crime Lab are assisting Plover officers with the investigation.

The name of the victim has not been released. Wierzba has not indicated if an arrest was made, but did say this was an isolated incident and there is no continuing threat to area residents.
