SAINT GERMAIN, Wis. (WXPR) -- A Vilas County town could be getting a little bigger on Wednesday after a vote on acquiring a piece of property from Integrys.
Saint Germain in considering whether or not to purchase a 237 acre parcel of land next to Lake Content. That currently sits next to town property, and Town Chair Walt Camp says the land does offer some value for residents. "This property adjoins current town park property and it would just enhance our town park. Currently there's a nature and hiking trail on the property."
If the property is picked up, Camp says there's already plans on how to develop it. "In the winter we plan to convert the trail over to cross country ski trails. Also, there's a major snowmobile corridor that runs through this piece of property."
The purchase price from Integrys is just under $500,000, but the state's Knowles-Nelson Stewardship fund is available for about half for the purchase.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the St. Germain Community Center.
