The first-ever George Harrison tribute concert has been announced. George Fest: A Night to Celebrate the Music of George Harrison will host a huge lineup of musical talent all playing classic music of the former Beatle .
Among those scheduled to perform are: Brandon Flowers and Mark Stoermer of The Killers , Nick Valensi of The Strokes , Britt Daniel of Spoon , ex- Guns N' Roses drummer Matt Sorum , Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Butch Walker , The Cult 's Ian Astbury , Wayne Coyne & Steven Drozd of The Flaming Lips , Ben Harper , Ann Wilson of Heart , Karen Elson and Brian Bell of Weezer .
"Many more big surprises" are promised at the event, which takes place on September 28 at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles. The show coincides with the re-release of George Harrison's first six solo albums, which first appeared from 1968 to 1975 on The Beatles' Apple Records label, digitally remastered from the original analog masters. The Apple Years 1968-75 will be available on CD and via digital download on September 23.
George Fest is being curated by The Best Fest -- which has put on similar tributes to Tom Petty and Bob Dylan -- in partnership with Harrison's estate. All the proceeds from ticket sales for the show will go to the Jameson Neighborhood Fund to benefit the Sweet Relief organization, which aids musicians in need of financial assistance because of illness or other issues.
Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Pacific via the AXS website .
