"We are so disappointed that we won't be seeing you this fall, but we're accepting the challenge 2020 is giving us and pouring our time and hearts into making a great album instead," the band says . "Friends, we miss you terribly and can't wait to play these songs for you next year!"

Dave Grohl shares Father's Day tribute to his late dad, James Harper Grohlhttps://rock947.com/news/articles/2020/jun/22/dave-grohl-shares-fathers-day-tribute-to-his-late-dad-james-harper-grohl/1031891/[email protected] ( )Mon, 22 Jun 2020 16:30:05 +0000https://rock947.com/news/articles/2020/jun/22/dave-grohl-shares-fathers-day-tribute-to-his-late-dad-james-harper-grohl/1031891/ Dave Grohl shared a new entry in his Dave's True Stories series on Father's Day with a tribute to his late dad, James Harper Grohl .

In the lengthy post, the Foo Fighters frontman describes his father, who was an award-winning journalist, as a "complicated man of many, sometimes-conflicting layers...A true Renaissance man, yet so conservative that he would sometimes by mistaken in public for the legendary political commentator George Will ."

Grohl goes on to explain how, when he was a teenager, his father forbade him from playing music with his friends due to his poor grades at school -- a rule that Grohl did not adhere to. One evening, after the younger Grohl had secretly planned and played his own punk show, James sat his son down and had the "dreaded 'What do you want to do with your life?' lecture."

Later that night, the 16-year-old future Nirvana drummer wrote a letter to his father, explaining that he was leaving home.

"The next day, [my father] called and only said, 'Don't ever do that again, David,'" Grohl writes. "Fortunately, I never had to, because from that moment on he recognized that I knew in my heart who I was and who I wanted to be, and that nothing could stop me from becoming that person no matter what."

"From that day forward, my father and I formed a new dynamic in our relationship," he continues. "Over the years we developed a friendship based on mutual respect."

Grohl adds that he's been thinking more about his father lately as he's begun to write more amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Just call it 'kicking the apple back up the hill a bit,'" Grohl muses. "If only he were still around to read it."

System of a Down's John Dolmayan: "Whatever your politics, you are all welcome"https://rock947.com/news/articles/2020/jun/19/system-of-a-downs-john-dolmayan-whatever-your-politics-you-are-all-welcome/1031396/[email protected] ( )Fri, 19 Jun 2020 20:00:30 +0000https://rock947.com/news/articles/2020/jun/19/system-of-a-downs-john-dolmayan-whatever-your-politics-you-are-all-welcome/1031396/ System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan has declared that the band's music is for everyone, no matter their political opinions.

"You are why all of us in system have what we have and we owe you a debt of gratitude for sticking with us all these years," Dolmayan wrote in an Instagram post, thanking fans.

"Whatever your politics you are all welcome," he added. "System of a Down is for all of you and always will be. Music has the power to bring us all together if we can just put differences aside, thank you all I love you all."

Dolmayan's statement is seemingly a response to frontman Serj Tankian 's post from earlier this week, in which he shared the lyrics to an early System demo called "Temper."

"If you love this song or play along to it and love [ Donald ] Trump , you're a hypocrite," Tankian wrote. "Just a simple fact."

Dolmayan, meanwhile, is a Trump supporter, and has called the president the "greatest friend to minorities."

In response to a comment on his post asking what Dolmayan thought about what Tankian said, the drummer replied, "I hope [Tankian] was misunderstood when he said that."

"I don't believe he thinks that way," Dolmayan added.

Dolmayan also responded to a comment asking if he disagreed with System's lyrics.

"I agree with some disagree with others," he wrote. "I try to take the best parts of things."

Kid Rock's Nashville bar issued temporary beer permit suspension for violating COVID-19 restrictionshttps://rock947.com/news/articles/2020/jun/19/kid-rocks-nashville-bar-issued-temporary-beer-permit-suspension-for-violating-covid-19-restrictions/1031312/[email protected] ( )Fri, 19 Jun 2020 16:30:09 +0000https://rock947.com/news/articles/2020/jun/19/kid-rocks-nashville-bar-issued-temporary-beer-permit-suspension-for-violating-covid-19-restrictions/1031312/ You won't be able to grab a beer at Kid Rock 's Big Honky Tonk and Steakhouse for the next few days.

According to the Tennessean , the "Bawitdaba" rocker's namesake Nashville bar and restaurant is one of four Music City establishments that got hit with a five-day beer permit suspension after violating COVID-19 restrictions.

Currently, Tennessee's Davidson County does not allow customers to be seated or served at a public bar. Kid Rock's Big Honky Tonk was apparently caught doing just that by the Metropolitan Beer Permit Board over the weekend, thus earning them the permit suspension.

"They were in violation of two points of the order that states bar areas must remain closed to the public," said inspector Melvin Brown . "No interaction with the public is allowed, and alcohol can only be served at tables and booths."

You may recall that the Big Honky Tonk was the center of some controversy early on in the quarantine back in March. Co-owner Steve Smith had initially insisted on keeping it open in defiance of Nashville Mayor John Cooper 's mandate to close all bars and restaurants, before eventually shutting it down in compliance.

The letter, which was organized by the National Independent Venue Association, or NIVA, asks Congress for federal funding to assist such performance spaces while they can't hold shows amid quarantine. According to NIVA, should lockdown last six months, 90 percent of independent venues will never be able to reopen again without federal assistance.

"We are asking you to support NIVA's request for assistance so these beloved venues can reopen when it's safe and welcome us and our fans back in," the letter reads. "The collapse of this crucial element in the music industry's ecosystem would be devastating."

Other artists who've signed the letter include Ozzy Osbourne , Coldplay , Queens of the Stone Age 's Josh Homme , Nine Inch Nails ' Trent Reznor , Alabama Shakes ' Brittany Howard , Alice Cooper , Beck , Vampire Weekend , The Black Keys ' Patrick Carney , St. Vincent , and The Lumineeers .

Lamb of God takes a ride through history from the Industrial Revolution with new, self-titled albumhttps://rock947.com/news/articles/2020/jun/19/lamb-of-god-takes-a-ride-through-history-from-the-industrial-revolution-with-new-self-titled-album/1031156/[email protected] ( )Fri, 19 Jun 2020 11:00:36 +0000https://rock947.com/news/articles/2020/jun/19/lamb-of-god-takes-a-ride-through-history-from-the-industrial-revolution-with-new-self-titled-album/1031156/ On Lamb of God 's new, self-titled album, frontman Randy Blythe tackles a number of different issues, including environmental pollution, immigration, and politics in general. But in writing about these topics, Blythe felt the need to dig back to their roots.

"I'm like, 'This is really messed up. How did we get here?'" Blythe tells ABC Audio. "And that's what I started thinking about. These sort of shifts in our character in modern society, and it's messed up. So I started thinking, 'How did this start?'"

"I took it back to the beginning of consumer culture and mass marketing advertising, which began around the Industrial Revolution," he continues. "So that's where I started writing from."

The song "Gears," for example, takes place in England during, as Blythe puts it, "18-whenever." Meanwhile, a song like "New Colossal Hate" references the meaning of the Statue of Liberty, and "Checkmate" tackles our polarized political system. "Poison Dreams," meanwhile, is about the history of water pollution in the U.S., something that Blythe has dealt with personally throughout his entire life.

"All this stuff has happened during my lifetime, but it's been going on for years before that, too," Blythe says. "So it's seen through my lens, but it's not exactly, like, 'This is happening right now, you need to pay attention to this!' It's stuff that has always been happening."

Blythe adds that the album isn't explicitly about the current president, either.

"I didn't want to write a record about Donald Trump ," Blythe laughs. "He's just a symptom of a much larger problem."

Lamb of God is out today.

Earlier this month, a woman shared a Facebook post alleging that Carlile "raped girls, probably more than anyone even knows about," and that he's a "predator seeking out underage girls by using his position in the music industry to do so."

The woman also said that she was one of over 15 girls who spoke to Alternative Press for an article about Carlile's alleged sexual misconduct, but the piece was never published. In its own statement , Alternative Press acknowledged the existence of the article, and said in part that the story was not published "because we could not check all the boxes we, as journalists, must check."

In an Instagram post published Thursday morning, Carlile writes, "I have never physically abused, preyed upon, forced myself upon, or drugged any woman. These accusations are false and defamatory."

"I did things and acted in ways that I am not proud of, but never have I violated anyone," he continues. "These 'accusations' being thrown around on social media, in our current 'cancel culture' climate, are extremely heinous and completely without merit.

Carlile adds that the accusations against him "have been investigated by the appropriate authorities as well as independent journalists and were determined to be unfounded."

"All women deserve to feel safe, supported, and heard," he concludes. "But these unjust attacks upon my family and accusations against me are decades old claims that are unfounded."

Carlile left Of Mice & Men in 2016 due to health issues. After the allegations broke, Of Mice & Men tweeted that they had no prior knowledge of the Alt Press piece, and had no part in "suppressing any such article."

"We absolutely condemn sexual violence and harassment in any form," the band said.
