WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- The Yawkey House Museum and Woodson History Center will team up on Thursday to put on an interactive exhibit for kids and teens exploring the early days of agriculture in Marathon County.

Outreach and Program Coordinator Sandy Block says Thursday's event will start with the very first settlement of the area. "The exhibit starts with what the area looked like when the trees were cut down because it originally was all forest. As they were cut down, farmers could come in and they had to clear out the stumps and create their fields." From there they'll focus on the growth of the dairy industry, which includes a display featuring all the early cheese factories in operation in Marathon County.

The event will feature a full tour of the Museum's new exhibit "Milking Time: The History of the Dairy Industry in Marathon County." Participants will also have the chance to tour the Yawkey House, which is set up in the style of a well-off family from 1908 along with the Yawkey House Gardens.

Registration for Thursday's event is already closed, but residents can keep up with future educational opportunities at both the Yawkey house and Woodson History Center by visiting www.marathoncountyhistory.org and by visiting their Facebook page. You can also reach the Historical Society by calling 715-842-5750.
