MADISON, WI (WSAU) -- Governor Scott Walker wasted no time following Tuesday’s primary election in welcoming his competitor to the race.

Tony Evers, who outlasted seven other candidates in the Democratic field to take the nomination, was challenged to two debates over the next three months by Walker in a press release Wednesday morning.

The statement from campaign manager Joe Fadness is below:

“Scott Walker is accepting two debates for the fall and we encourage his opponent to step up and do the same. Four years ago, the governor participated in the two debates sponsored by Wisconsin Broadcasters Association. Given their decision to hold only one governor’s debate this year, the governor is agreeing to one additional statewide debate in line with our earlier practice. The governor is looking forward to sharing his vision to move Wisconsin forward at the debates this fall by WBA and the partnership between WTMJ TV, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and Milwaukee Public Radio.”

Evers has not responded to the Governor’s challenge.
