WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) -- The City of Wausau will begin the 2018 fall leaf collection season on Wednesday.

Residents can participate by simply raking the leaves in their yards into the street gutters and wait for the city to collect them using equipment that will bale the leaves as they are collected.

In order to effectively collect the foliage, residents are encouraged to rake their leaves into rows along the gutter and not into a pile. Additionally, other debris such as sticks or root balls cannot be picked up and should be left out of the gutters.

City workers recommend raking your leaves into the street the weekend before your pick-up date. Doing so sooner could cause the debris to plug gutters creating dangerous conditions for bicyclists and motorcyclists.

Pickup is scheduled to run through November 14th, weather permitting. Those who miss out on the leaf pickup can drop them off at the yard waste site on Chellis Street until November 18th.

The complete collection schedule can be found on the city's website by clicking here.
