MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WDLB) -- The city of Marshfield has closed a deal with Growth Motels-Oshkosh LLC to build a new Hampton Inn and Suites at the site of the former Knights of Columbus Hall.

WDLB Radio in Marshfield reports the deal happened Friday morning, Mayor Bob McManus says despite being denied tax increment financing and developer's incentives in previous attempts, the developers never lost interest.

"The property remained on the market, and the buyer came back through a different agent and they worked out a separate transaction," said McManus.

Rita Blenker of Century 21 Gold Key Realty confirmed that the transaction closed on Monday, and said she was with the buyer throughout the process.

"He took a step back from everything that happened in the past, re-evaluated it, and came back with another LLC. He decided that this is where he wanted to be." Blenker adds that while not everyone is happy with the deal, the property will still be positive growth for the city.

Growth Motels will pay $365,000 for the site and will begin construction on an 86 room Hampton Inn and Suites later this summer.

Previous plans had called for the hotel to be ready in time for holiday guests this year. With the delays, the property likely won't open until early 2020.

Plans for the hotel include an indoor pool. The property will not have amenities such as a bar and restaurant or a hot tub.
