Adams close to return

It was just a walk through but everyone in the Don Hutson center was zeroed in on watching one player run.  Davante Adams was back in line with the rest of the wide receivers to run routes on the practice field.   He showed burst off the line of scrimmage, planted solidly on cuts and was striding with confidence.

The month long turf toe battle appears to be coming to an end.

In the locker room following the one hour, non-padded practice, Adams said the plants were among the last hurdle to clear and while the toe is still sore, he knows his return is close.

Head Coach Matt LaFleur is still in a wait and see mode.   He told reporters it's day by day now and he's not quite ready to declare him game worthy as the Packers prepare for Sunday's game against the Chargers in Los Angeles.

If Adams suits up for the first time since the second half of the Philadelphia Eagles game in late September, he said he won't force the issue:

This was the second consecutive Wednesday where LaFleur put the team through a brief and light practice.   No pads, not even helmets were required.   LaFleur said the team still got in just as many if not more reps in the walk through versus a regular practice.  He's being mindful of the team's overall health and willing to give older veterans an extra day of rest.   Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Graham, Tramon Williams and Mercedes Lewis were among the players who did bike riding and other exercises on the side.

22 players were still listed on the first injury report of the week, even though it was only an estimation but none of the players were designated as "did not participate."

The offensive players wore white jerseys at practice, the defensive players with green but there was a green number 27 taking a couple of snaps with running backs.  Tremon Smith, a defensive back by trade, promoted off the practice squad on Tuesday, did drills with the likes of Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams.   The expected kick returner was only getting a taste of the position,  it doesn't appear he'll be a secret weapon on offense.

I’ve got Green and Gold in my blood having grown up in Titletown and it’s been a treat watching and covering sports from the Packers to the preps for you in Green Bay for Midwest Communications.
As a kid, I chased Packer players for autographs, I’m still chasing ‘em now for quotes on the big play or big game. I’ve had the opportunity to cover Super Bowls, the World Series, Stanley Cup Finals, NBA playoffs and major championship golf over the years but I get just as much enjoyment following the college scene at UWGB or St. Norbert, the Green Bay Gamblers and high school sports.
Our prep coverage was honored as the best of 2007 reinforcing our commitment to give these hard working boys and girls their due.
My work has also been recognized by the Associated Press and Wisconsin Broadcasters Association with several achievement awards.
Outside of the studio, off the field or away from the gym, I’ve had the pleasure of helping dozens of organizations over the years. I’ve served as race announcer and master of ceremonies at the Bellin Run almost from it’s beginning, spoken to various service clubs and hosted charity golf events or team banquets.
My wife Kari and I have raised two active children which has kept us involved in both school and club athletics for nearly 15 years. Chances are you’ll see me on a golf course when the weather’s nice. My roots are deep and that’s why I’m so enthusiastic about this area’s sporting scene, and as I often say, “Watching kids play games helps keep me young!”
Thanks for listening and see you at the game.
