Packers head to Canada

The Green Bay Packers travel to Winnipeg, the Manitoba capitol to play the Oakland Raiders Thursday night in the third of four pre-season games.

After wrapping up the practice week on Tuesday, where Aaron Rodgers worked for the second consecutive day, Head Coach Matt LaFleur was still coy about whether his quarterback would see his first pre-season snaps of the summer.  Rodgers missed the Baltimore game and last Sunday's practice when his back tightened up.

"To be determined", LaFleur responded when asked if Rodgers will play against the Raiders.    He said he wants to make sure Rodgers is well and the decision will likely be made on Thursday.

Rodgers certainly has a solid on the field relationship with Davante Adams and perhaps Geronimo Allison, but after that, it's a very green wide receiving group battling for roster spots.    Aaron talked about the position this week and realizes it's a far cry from the veteran group of Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and James Jones from just a couple of years ago.

One of those receivers, J'Mon Moore, has been given a citation by authorities after a car accident last Friday outside of Green Bay.    Moore was alone in his car when is skidded across the median of highway 29 and was hit by an oncoming car, leaving the driver, a 62 year old man from Keshena, with minor injuries.   Moore, who was unhurt,  was cited for driving too fast for conditions during a heavy rainstorm.

Rookie tight end Jace Sternberger has been cleared from the concussion protocol and took part in limited drills on Tuesday.   He was hurt after getting hit by a Houston Texans player during the joint practices two weeks ago.   He's not expected to play against the Raiders.

I’ve got Green and Gold in my blood having grown up in Titletown and it’s been a treat watching and covering sports from the Packers to the preps for you in Green Bay for Midwest Communications.
As a kid, I chased Packer players for autographs, I’m still chasing ‘em now for quotes on the big play or big game. I’ve had the opportunity to cover Super Bowls, the World Series, Stanley Cup Finals, NBA playoffs and major championship golf over the years but I get just as much enjoyment following the college scene at UWGB or St. Norbert, the Green Bay Gamblers and high school sports.
Our prep coverage was honored as the best of 2007 reinforcing our commitment to give these hard working boys and girls their due.
My work has also been recognized by the Associated Press and Wisconsin Broadcasters Association with several achievement awards.
Outside of the studio, off the field or away from the gym, I’ve had the pleasure of helping dozens of organizations over the years. I’ve served as race announcer and master of ceremonies at the Bellin Run almost from it’s beginning, spoken to various service clubs and hosted charity golf events or team banquets.
My wife Kari and I have raised two active children which has kept us involved in both school and club athletics for nearly 15 years. Chances are you’ll see me on a golf course when the weather’s nice. My roots are deep and that’s why I’m so enthusiastic about this area’s sporting scene, and as I often say, “Watching kids play games helps keep me young!”
Thanks for listening and see you at the game.
