The Packers have landed!

by Mark Daniels

The first touch down of the season occured at about 2:45 Pacific Time.  That's when the Pack's chartered jet touched down at San Francisco International Airport.   The entourage then boarded busses for about a 30 minute ride down the bay shore to the Westin Hotel.   That's John Kuhn and Tim Masthay stepping off the bus on the blog headline photo.  Here's B.J. Raji looking for his bags:

The check in process on the road is pretty smooth.  The players, coaches and support staff all walk through a ballroom, grab their room keys all laid out and away they go.  Interviews are frowned upon when the team's checking in but I did say hello to defensive backs assistant coach Joe Whitt in the lobby.  He said the flight was fine, a little longer than usual.  That's because he said the team chartered a smaller plane than they normally do for long hauls.  Maybe the cramped quarters will keep the team ornery for tomorrow.

One of Whitt's key players, defensive back Casey Hayward, is apparently hurt worse than first thought.  There are reports out today that Hayward's pulled hamstring could force him to miss the first month of the season.  That would leave rookie 5th round pick Micah Hyde as the lead slot DB in the nickel and dime packages.  And the way Dom Capers loves the nickel, Hyde will be getting a lot of snaps early in his career.

After the team has a final meeting, Mike McCarthy cuts the guys loose for a while.  They're allowed to venture north into the city, catch some dinner, but they'll have to be back home for bed check around 11:00 PM.   Let's hope they get a good night's sleep before opening day tomorrow.
