"Buddy Holly" was the second single from Weezer's debut album The Blue Album. It reached #2 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart and #17 on the Mainstream Top 40 chart.
Though a lot of people get a romantic vibe from the song, "I'm yours - you're mine," singer/songwriter Rivers Cuomo says it's actually about standing up for a female friend.
The video got a significant amount of airplay on MTV and won four awards at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards including Best Alternative Video, Breakthrough Video, Best Direction and Best Editing. It was also nominated for Video of the Year, but lost to TLC "Waterfalls."
In the video the announcer says "Kenosha's own Weezer." The band was actually formed in Los Angeles.
