The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released "The Impression That I Get" off their 1997 album Lets Face It. It was their biggest hit. It reached #1 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart and #23 on the Hot 100 Airplay chart. The song was everywhere! Ska has been around in different forms since the 1950s, Ska Punk really hit the rock music scene in the 90s after people started losing interest in Grunge and it made quite an impression (see what I did there?).
More than a year before Let's Face It was released "The Impression That I Get" was included on Safe and Sound: A Benefit in Response to the Brookline Clinic Violence , that album was released in response to the murders of two abortion clinic workers in two different clinics in Massachusetts on December 30, 1994, so it received heavy play on Boston radio throughout 1996. I guess it made a big enough impression that the label felt it needed to be officially released as the lead single from their 1997 album.
