Killers Frontman Bashes Green Day

by Amber Lee

Brandon Flowers, lead singer of the Killers, bashed Green Day's recent DVD decision. The band filmed Bullet in a Bible in the UK. The result was thousand of English teens screaming "I don't want to be an American Idiot,' which came off as contrived anti-Americanism to Flowers. He thought the entire DVD was a stunt.

"You have Green Day and 'American Idiot'. Where do they film their DVD? In England," Flowers told the Word. "A bunch of kids screaming 'I don't want to be an American idiot' I saw it as a very negative thing towards Americans. It really lit a fire in me."

Flowers did go on to say that perhaps Green Day meant the song to be a 'proud to be an American song,' much like "Born in the USA." However, he said “I just thought it was really cheap... To go to a place like England or Germany and sing that song – those kids aren’t taking it the same way that he meant it. And he [Billie Joe Armstrong] knew it.”
