The Packers put out one of the most incredible offensive performances in the history of the team last week against the Redskins. This week the guys head to my home state of Ohio to take on the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals have a great defensive line with Geno Atkins, Carlos Dunlap and Michael Johnson. Here are my keys to a Packers victory.
1. Contain the short to medium passing game. I feel it is dumb to have one of my reasons to victory being contain A.J. Green because quite frankly Green is a freak and top 5 wide out. The Bengals have two tight ends who will command attention in Jermaine Gresham and rookie Tyler Eifert. They have also found a possible gem in second rounder Giovanni Bernard who catches the ball well out of the backfield.
2. Pass rush- Finally three weeks into the season we can get a good read of the Packers pass rush. The guys have three sacks in the first two weeks but playing against a pocket passer in Andy Dalton should give the Packers more opportunities to get to the quarterback and bring him down. A steady pass rush could turn Dalton from a pretty good QB into a sub par one.
3. A respectable enough running game- The Bengals are 6th in the NFL in rushing defense giving up 62.5 yards per game. The Pack ended their 100 yard rusher drought last week against the Redskins and while it will be difficult for an individual to put up 100 on these guys, they need to do enough to keep the defense honest. Get some respectable rushing yards and hello play-action passing!
