UNDATED (WSAU) The unemployment rate in the Wausau area is up, mostly because of seasonal workers being laid off at the end of the holiday shopping season.

The Wausau-metro unemployment rate in January rose from 9.4- to 10-9-percent. Unemployment in Stevens Point is also up, from 7.1- to 8.8-percent.

Marathon County's unemployment rate was also up to 8.2-percent. Portage County was 7.3-percent. Wood County was 8.8-percent.
