WAUKESHA, WI (WTAQ) - Parts of a major state recreation trail are closed in southern Wisconsin due to bridge repairs.
The DNR says over a dozen bridges are being fixed or replaced on the Glacial Drumlin State Trail from Waukesha to Cottage Grove in eastern Dane County.
Work began Monday on two large bridges that cross the Rock and Crawfish rivers – and on 11 bridges in Waukesha County.
Repairs will begin April 22nd on the largest bridge on the trail at Lake Koshkonong. That work is due to finish May 13th. The other repairs will end at various times.
DNR trails coordinator Brigit Brown says every effort is being made to minimize the trail closings. Crews waited until the snowmobile season ended – and they started as early as possible before the busy summer hiking and biking seasons.
Officials will place updated condition reports on the trail on the DNR’s Web site, accessible at Wisconsin.Gov.
