Sentencing date set for Madison woman convicted of torturing step-daughter

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A sentencing date of July 26th is set for a Madison woman convicted of torturing and starving her teenage step-daughter.

43-year-old Melinda Drabek-Chritton avoided a trial, by pleading no contest earlier this month to reckless endangerment and mentally harming a child. Four other counts were dropped.

Authorities said the young girl was locked in a basement and starved for years, until she broke away in February of 2012. She was 15 at the time, and her weight was down to 68 pounds.

A Dane County jury convicted the woman’s husband, Chad Chritton, in March on two counts of child neglect.

At the time, prosecutors said they would seek a new trial on 4 other charges for which jurors could not reach unanimous verdicts.

The girl’s step-brother is scheduled to go on trial in June on charges that he molested her.
