STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - Stevens Point officials will discuss the possibility of creating a municipal court. That topic is on the agenda for the City Council Tuesday night. City Attorney Logan Beveridge says creating a municipal court is something he campaigned on, and he’s hopeful it can happen. He’s not sure if the city council will support it yet.
The city attorney believes creating a municipal court will simplify handling municipal citations for all parties. Beveridge is not sure where the municipal court would be located, but says it is part of the city’s space needs assessment.
So far, it would involve just Stevens Point, but Beveridge says there has been discussion of having a joint municipal court with neighboring communities including Plover.
City Council members will talk about the idea after a brief presentation starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Lincoln Center.
