STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) - There’s another scam to watch out for. Police have received many reports of a new scam, where someone calls or knocks on your door to deliver free medical equipment that someone else allegedly ordered for you. Most of the complaints are from attempted phone calls, where the automated prompt tells you to press a number to accept the equipment.
Investigators say don’t press any keys on your phone. Just hang up instead, and report the call to the police. Officials say several people who pushed a number were transferred to people trying to get your personal information or bank card numbers to pay for fees. Consumer protection officials say you should never give out information on a call you did not place and to people you do not know or trust.
Authorities say this particular scam has been tried several times in the Stevens Point area recently.
