MADISON, Wis (WSAU) -- Badger nation is celebrating a big victory. The Wisconsin Badger Women’s Volleyball team has stunned top ranked Texas to earn a spot in the national championship match.
Head Coach Kelly Sheffield has said if the team can get health and regain some confidence, “There’s no telling what they could accomplish.” Now, they’re one team away from winning it all.
The Badgers played number-one Texas in Seattle Thursday evening, and came away with a 4-1 win. The defending National Champion is done, thanks to Wisconsin. The Badgers will play either number-two Penn State or number-three Washington for the title.
Freshman setter Lauren Carlini had 50 assists and junior outside hitter Ellen Chapman had 17 kills. The Longhorns’ 23-match winning streak ended as Wisconsin won the match in four sets 25-19, 25-18, 26-28, 25-23.
This is Sheffield’s first year as head coach at Wisconsin.
