KENOSHA, WI (WTAQ) - A vacant house exploded in Kenosha – and while the cause is still being investigated, neighbors said they smelled natural gas just before the blast occurred.
The neighborhood was evacuated for a short time Thursday as firefighters inspected the damage.
Kenosha Fire Chief John Thomsen said he was surprised that nobody was hurt. At least two neighbors were only a few feet away from the house when its windows were blown out, and bricks flew in every direction.
Thomsen told WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee that he could not confirm whether there squatters in the home, that was foreclosed upon earlier this year.
Neighbors said the house was empty for about a month.
