LA CROSSE, WI (WTAQ) - A $1 million bond has been ordered for a La Crosse man accused of killing another man at a Kwik Trip convenience store last weekend.
25-year-old Mitrel Anderson made his initial court appearance Wednesday on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide.
Also, Anderson’s girlfriend – 23-year-old Brittany Jones of La Crosse – appeared on a charge of aiding a felon. She was accused of helping Anderson leave La Crosse on Monday.
Both were picked up later that day, when police caught them leaving a Madison apartment building. A $50,000 bond was ordered in her case.
Both are due back in court next Wednesday, when a judge will decide if there’s enough to put both defendants on trial.
Authorities said Anderson stabbed 24-year-old Demario Lee of Rockford Illinois early Sunday, as Lee was in La Crosse to visit family members.
Friends of both Lee and Anderson reportedly went on Facebook to urge their supporters to appear in court. WXOW-TV said officials were ready for tensions, but there were none.
The station said police escorted Lee’s family in and out of the courtroom – and officers made sure those people safely got into their cars and drove away after the hearing.
