WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) - As Wausau and Weston prepare for a new regional animal control program, funds are coming in to supply the right vehicle for the job.
Wausau Police Department will be the coordinating agency for the Regional Animal Control Program. Chief Jeff Hardel says they have been notified of a second grant to apply towards the purchase of a properly equipped truck. A 5-thousand dollar grant from the Walter Alexander Foundation has been added to the 10-thousand dollar grant from the B.A. and Esther Greenheck Foundation.
Hardel says there are some other grant requests out there, and they’re hoping to get additional help in purchasing the 35-thousand dollar vehicle. The special truck will have a kennel topper and space to keep the necessary equipment for handling animals safely.
