APPLETON, WI (WSAU) - It was close and exciting, but SPASH could not knock off the defending state baseball champions Thursday. Sun Prairie repeats as the champ by scoring the go ahead run in the 8th inning and retiring SPASH 1-2-3 to seal the deal.

Sun Prairie got the first run in the top of the first. The Panthers came right back with back-to-back RBI singles by Sterling King and Andrew Ruzek. It was SPASH 2-1 after the first inning.

Sun Prairie then scored two more runs in the 3rd, then added another in 5th to take a 4-2 lead. Sterling King had SPASH’s last at-bat, and delivered a bases-loaded single up the middle to force extra innings tied at 4.

In the 8th, Conner Funnell hit a double to left field to score the go-ahead run. The Panthers couldn’t get a hit, and the 5-4 score is how it ended.
