WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) --  What used to be a night club is now an empty lot. IC Willy’s old building at Grand Avenue and Kent Street is gone.

IC Willy’s was closed after the City of Wausau chose not to renew its liquor license after several noise complaints and undesirable events. Tom and Susie Nowell filed an appeal to the city’s decision in Marathon County court back in 2010. The issue of Wausau denying the Nowell’s a license is presently being reviewed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The Nowell’s haven’t given up the battle, even though they’ve moved out of state and no longer have a premises to operate.

Several other parties have filed briefs in support of the City of Wausau’s position, including the League of Wisconsin Municipalities, and the cities of Madison, Milwaukee, and Racine.

The Grand Avenue and Kent Street site is being cleared to build a new Kwik Trip convenience store, which will open later this year. The new Kwik Trip will replace the older, smaller Grand Avenue location north of this site.
