MADISON, WI (WSAU) - The stage is set for some contentious debate over school funding in Wisconsin.
Part of the governor’s budget plan includes providing vouchers for special needs students to attend private schools. That plan isn’t popular with many public school officials. The Wisconsin Association of School Boards members told legislators on the Joint Finance Committee exactly that during their Lobby Day Wednesday.
Four public budget hearings will be held next month in Greenfield, Green Bay, Wisconsin Dells and Baldwin. Joint Finance Committee co-chair Alberta Darling says she expects they will vote on the budget soon after the hearings, with the full Legislature voting in June.
