LaMont Jacobson named to vacant Marathon County judge's seat

by

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAU) - Assistant district attorney LaMont Jacobson was appointed today to fill a vacant Judge's seat in Marathon County.

Governor Walker announced today that Jacobson would be taking over in Branch Three where Judge Vincent Howard retired earlier this year. “Mr. Jacobson has dedicated thirty years to public service,” said Governor Walker. “His experience as an award-winning prosecutor and family court commissioner are outstanding preparation for the bench. I am confident he will be a fair and impartial judge who honors the Constitution and rule of law.”

Jacobson says he is honored, but still trying to take it all in. "Honestly, I've got to sit down with Ken Heimmermann because there is a caseload that has to be transferred, schedules have to be accommodated." He says he'll be taking his experience on the other side of the bench with him, but might have to do a little brushing up on his civil law.

Jacobson has worked with Marathon County's DA's office since 1989. He previously was the district attorney and family court commissioner in Vernon County and was an assistant district attorney in Dunn County. The governor's office said in a statement that Jacobson has worked around 500 cases in his career to a verdict, with 100 of those cases coming to a jury trial.
