HARTFORD, CT (WTAQ) - Governor Scott Walker told his fellow Republicans in Connecticut that most people agree with his efforts to take on public employee unions and re-shape government.

Walker spoke at the Prescott Bush Awards Dinner in Hartford last night. Walker repeated something that conservatives have said for years – that Democrats measure success in government by the number of people who are dependent, while Republicans measure success by the numbers who no longer need such help.

Walker said Republicans understand that quote, “True freedom and prosperity come when we empower people to take control of their own lives and their own destinies.”

Walker will speak at a Republican fundraiser in New York Tuesday night.  On Thursday, the governor plans to speak to county Republicans in Des Moines Iowa, at an event known to host potential GOP White House hopefuls.

Democrats have called Walker put for his out-of-town schedule, at a time when lawmakers are acting on major planks of his proposed state budget for the next two years.
